Kidnapped man flees custody

SAHIWAL, July 26: A kidnapped man escaped from the clutches of his captors and police registered a case on Wednesday. Mazhar Iqbal was on way to his village Bhauni on his motorcycle when Fida Husain and his seven accomplices kidnapped him and locked in a room. Mazhar somehow escaped from the room and reached Noorshah police station.

ROBBERY: Four robbers deprived a family of gold and other valuables on Tuesday night.

Ghulam Jilani of Deepalpur was returning to his home with his family when the robbers stopped him. They snatched gold jewellery from the women worth Rs210,000 and Rs8,000 in cash and disappeared firing.

Later, the robbers set up a picket on the GT Road near Chak 186/9-L and shot and injured Rashid when he put up resistance. They took away Rs5,000 in cash and two cell phones.

Police have registered cases with no arrest.

TELEPHONES: Around 4,674 telephones silenced when unidentified men stole PTCL cable here on Tuesday night.

The thieves reportedly cut the cable at Jogi Chowk as a result of which telephones at Lorry Adda, GT Road, Chak 97/6-R, Chak 92/6 Farid Town, Jinnah Street and other areas disconnected.

Subscribers have been facing hardships while the department has not yet taken any step to restore telephones.
