KARACHI: The State Bank’s foreign exchange reserves surged by over $3 billion during the week ending Sept 11, the central bank announced on Thursday.

During the week, the SBP’s forex reserves increased by $3.06bn to $21.389bn following receipt of the proceeds from the Eurobond issuance,” said the SBP.

Following the successful Eurobond launch, the largest ever, the country returned to the international financial market, reflecting investors’ confidence. The finance ministry said the government was working to gradually replace bilateral and multilateral loans with market bonds.

The country’s total liquid foreign reserves stood at $26.791bn. Net foreign reserves held by commercial banks were $5.402bn.
