LAHORE: Pakistan will host Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in a women’s Under-19 T20 tri-series at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium from Oct 2 to 16, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Tuesday.

The tournament will be played in a triple round-robin format, with each side facing the other two three times before the top two teams meet in the final.

Pakistan will open their campaign against Bangladesh on Oct 2 before facing Sri Lanka the following day. There will be a rest day on Oct 4. A total of 10 matches will be played during the tournament. The Sri Lankan side will arrive in Pakistan on Sept 28, with Bangladesh reaching a day later. The three teams will train at Iqbal Stadium on Sept 29, 30 and Oct 1.

The event will be the first women’s international cricket tournament at the venue, which hosted international cricket last November after a 17-year gap when South Africa played Pakistan in a three-match ODI series.

The PCB said the extended format had been adopted to provide the players with more opportunities ahead of the ACC Women’s U19 Asia Cup and ICC Women’s U19 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the PCB announced a 20-member Pakistan squad for the tournament, with Fizza Fiaz retaining the captaincy.

Top-order batter Qamrosh Farhan, openers Malaika Suhani and Pakeeza Shabbir, and off-spinner Afsheen Khan have earned maiden call-ups after impressive performances in the National Women’s U19 Tournament.

Qamrosh scored 139 runs in the tournament, while Pakeeza was the leading run-scorer with 283. Malaika made 192 runs, while Afsheen claimed 18 wickets to finish as the tournament’s leading bowler.

Qamrosh will join her sister Ravail Farhan in the Pakistan squad.

The Pakistan squad will assemble in Faisalabad on Tuesday for a 12-day training camp at Iqbal Stadium and Bohranwala. The camp will include at least four intra-squad practice matches.

Pakistan U-19 squad: Fizza Fiaz (captain), Afsheen Khan, Alzoha Hammad, Aqsa Habib, Areesha Ansari (wicket-keeper), Komal Khan (wicket-keeper), Mah Noor, Barirah Saif, Maham Nazakat, Mahnoor Zeb, Malaika Suhani, Memoona Khalid, Pakeeza Shabbir, Qamrosh Farhan, Raahima Syed, Ravail Farhan, Rozina Akram, Shahar Bano, Zainab Khanum and Zoofishan Ayyaz.
