ATTOCK, July 24: Some sensitive government agencies have initiated investigations into registration of a case against top leaders of Muttahida Majli-i-Amal, while the Prime Minister’s Secretariat is also examining various aspects of the incident, sources said.

They said the agencies were probing as to how and why some police officials booked the top MMA leader, including the alliance president, Qazi Hussain Ahmad, and opposition leader in the National Assembly Maulana Fazular Rehman, in such a hasty manner without seeking permission of the higher authorities.

They are also considering the aspect that may be such an attempt has been made to create confrontation between the government and the opposition parties.

The PM’s Secretariat is also looking into various aspects of the matter, and the secretariat additional secretary, Tanveer Abbass Jaferi, has already sought detailed report on the incident along with case record from Attock police, the sources said.

It is being expected that the government could take strict action against the police officials concerned, the sources said.

Earlier on Sunday, Attock police withdrew the FIR against the MMA leaders on the directions of higher authorities. The DPO Attock suspended the City police SHO and recommended disciplinary action/transfer of DSP Legal and DSP Saddar circle for not fulfilling their duties in a responsible and professional manner.
