KARACHI: After a dry August, the metropolis is likely to receive rainfall from next week as the Pakistan Meteorological Department on Friday forecast thunderstorms/rain in several parts of the province.

According to the department’s advisory, a monsoon low lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha coast and is likely to move westward. Under its influence dust-storm and thunderstorm/rain, with few moderate to isolated heavy falls, are expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Tando Muhammad Khan from Sunday (tomorrow) to Wednesday (Sept 16).

“Thunderstorms/light rain may occur in Karachi division from Monday, Sept 14, to Wednesday, Sept 16, with occasional gaps,” it said, adding that rain of light to moderate intensity is also expected during the same period in Hyderabad, Sanghar, Khairpur, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Shaheed Benazirabad and Jamshoro districts.

Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to persist in Karachi over the next two days, with maximum temperatures ranging between 34°C and 37°C.

Humidity is expected to range between 70 per cent and 80pc in the morning and 55pc to 65pc in the evening.
