Malik to start fitness programme

LAHORE, July 22: Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik will start rehabilitation programme from next week in Lahore to overcome fitness problems.

Malik had to leave the ongoing tour of England before start of the first Test at Lord's and had to come back to the country due to elbow pain.

While talking to Dawn from Sialkot, Malik said: "I will start the rehabilitation programme from Monday or Tuesday under the guidance of PCB experts."

Malik is currently taking rest and has not consulted any doctor to discuss the injury.

He had to appear before a PCB medical commission on Friday with Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and Mohammad Asif but only the latter appeared.

The all-rounder, a veteran of 15 Tests and 118 One-day Internationals, said he missed the England tour and regarded it as one of the miseries in his life.

"I had been waiting for the tour since long but the fate turned it the other way," he said.

Malik clarified he was facing the pain in the same elbow which had been operated in South Africa in April.

He, however, dispelled the impression that the pain was the result of the unsuccessful operation.

"I think it is not correct. The operation was a successful one according to the then medical reports. Let the doctors here examine again," he said.

Malik was reluctant about predicting if he would be available for ODI series against England starting from Aug 28.

"I can't predict anything before taking a medical advice," he concluded.
