BAHAWALNAGAR, July 22: An XEN of the Public Health Engineering Department was arrested on the charge of corruption by the Anti Corruption Establishment here on Saturday.

Rana Jamshed Iqbal had lodged a complaint that M/s Sadaquat Builders had been allotted the work of installing 11 water turbines and equal number of tubewells and pump hoses along the Fordwah Canal for supplying potable water to Bahawalnagar in 2004.

The complainant further alleged that the contractor, in connivance with TMA officials and the engineering branch, had received over Rs10 million payment, but carried out no work at all.

The ACE additional director himself conducted an inquiry and visited the site and found the allegations true. He ordered the registration of a case against TMO Shaikh Ziaul Haq, XEN Shahid Bilal, sub-engineer Shaukat Ali, contractor Chaudhry Abdul Rasheed and others.

It may be mentioned that the Punjab governor during his visit to Bahawalnagar had granted Rs700 million for the drinking water supply scheme in Bahawalnagar sometime back.
