KARACHI, July 22: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Saturday called for raising awareness among the masses about preventive measures against accidental electrocution and burns.

He was talking to a delegation of US surgeons and paramedics, led by House of Charity’s head Hashmat Effendi, which called on him at Governor’s House. He also stressed the need for educating parents to protect children from such incidents.

The US surgeons’ team is on a three-week visit to Pakistan. It is conducting reconstructive surgeries of burn patients, including children, in Karachi and Lahore.

Appreciating their visit and services, the governor called upon the surgeons and technicians to transfer their expertise to local medical practitioners and train them so that their mission would continue. He emphasised the need for availing of telemedicine services in this regard.

He also talked about measures to increase the number of burn units in Karachi and set them on modern lines. He said that philanthropists and various welfare organisations were extending their co-operation to the government for the purpose and especially lauded the efforts of Dow University of Health Sciences in this regard.

Dr Ibad said there should be awareness among public about safe use of electrical equipment, prevention against burn incidents and relief measures in case of accidents.

Dr Geof Williams, Dr Michael E Schafer, Nurse Leslie Ernest, Dr Firoze, Ghulam Muhammad Bombaywala and others were among the delegation.—PPI
