BANNU: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have approached the home and tribal affairs department seeking the deployment of Federal Constabulary (FC) platoons to protect sensitive and important government installations in Bannu and Lakki Marwat amid worsening law and order in the two districts.
According to a letter issued by the DIG Operations Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the deployment of nine FC platoons has been requested, including five for Bannu and four for Lakki Marwat.
In Bannu, one FC platoon each has been sought for the security of the district jail, judicial complex, deputy commissioner’s office, Peshawar High Court’s Bannu Bench and a grid station.
In Lakki Marwat, two FC platoons have been requested for the district jail, while one platoon each has been sought for the judicial complex and the district administration.
Insist move also meant to protect govt installations as protests by police peace body continue
Earlier, in a separate letter addressed to the Bannu Regional Police Officer, DPO Bannu Furqan Bilal had expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in the district. The letter stated that the ongoing protests by the police peace committee, road blockades, firing in the air and threats allegedly received by police officers had severely affected the movement of the district administration and judiciary.
The letter further pointed out that, in view of the withdrawal of police personnel from sensitive installations and the possibility of renewed protests, immediate alternative security arrangements were required.
The DPO had requested 450 FC personnel comprising 10 platoons for Bannu to ensure the security of sensitive installations and deal with any untoward incident.
Police officials said the deployment of FC personnel was aimed at securing sensitive government installations while allowing police personnel to remain available for other critical security and law-and-order duties.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have also issued large-scale transfer and posting orders for low-rank personnel.
According to an order issued by the IGP office on August 28, a total of 57 policemen have been transferred, including nine personnel from Bannu police, among them police peace committee president Hazrat Umar.
According to the order, LHC Mohammad Naeem has been transferred from Bannu to Shangla; FC Hidayatullah from Bannu to Lower Kohistan; FC Muslim from Bannu to Shangla; IHC Mir Zaman from Bannu to Buner; LHC Hazrat Umar from Bannu to Lower Kohistan; LHC Naseebullah from Bannu to Swat; LHC Mehtab Khan from Bannu to Haripur; LHC Sohail Zafar from Bannu to Torghar; while FC Shiraz has been transferred from Bannu to Nowshera.
According to police sources, the recent transfers were aimed at ensuring the deployment of personnel in accordance with manpower requirements in different districts and police units.
Sources said that all nine personnel transferred from Bannu were associated with the police peace committee.
