LAKKI MARWAT: The Police Aman Committee and the residents of the Kurrum Par area continued their protest here on the second consecutive day on Friday against the alleged kidnapping of a policeman.

A large number of police officials participated in the demonstration held outside the District Headquarters Complex at Tajazai. Many policemen were wearing uniform while others were in plainclothes.

MNA Sher Afzal Marwat, Marwat Bettani Tehreek chairman Inamullah Khan, other elders and people from various parts of the district were also in attendance.

The agitation outside DHQ Complex caused closure of government offices as officers and employees could not attend their offices.

The DHQ complex houses the offices of deputy commissioner and other line departments and the Police Lines.

The residents of Landiwah and adjacent villages backed by members of the Police Aman Committee also kept the busy Indus Highway closed to vehicular traffic on the second consecutive day.

The closure of the highway caused queuing up of goods and public transport vehicles and added to the troubles of transporters and commuters.

The protesters demanded safe recovery of the missing policeman and registration of cases under the relevant sections of law.

They asked the police authorities to fulfill the promises they had made with the area people. They said that they would continue their agitation until the safe recovery of the kidnapped official.

MNA Sher Afzal Marwat, Police Aman Committee president Khalid Khan, Inamullah and other elders spoke to the protest gathering outside the DHQ complex. Mr Marwat said on the occasion that the Marwat tribe rejected terrorism in all its manifestations and wanted peace on their soil.

He said that the residents of the district stood by the law enforcement and security agencies in the fight against terrorism.

The lawmaker said that the terrorists attacked his Begukhel clan several times resulting in the martyrdom of several tribesmen.
