LAHORE, July 21: The city police claimed to have recovered a six-year-old seminary student who was kidnapped four days ago for Rs2.5 million ransom from Chungi Amar Sadhu, arresting the three kidnappers.
DIG Operations Amir Zulfiqar told newsmen on Friday that three persons kidnapped banker Iqbal’s son Mubashar from outside his seminary and demanded Rs2.5 million ransom from his family.
The DIG said the police kept a vigil on his family members and close friends and asked the family to negotiate with the outlaws who demanded Rs2.5 million. The child’s father handed over Rs2 million to the kidnappers in Manga Mandi area and secured the release of his son.
The DIG said the police according to a plan had already cordoned off the locality and managed to arrest the kidnappers identified as Zubair alias Zubairi and Idrees. However, their third accomplice Zeeshan who managed to escape then was later arrested. He said Zeeshan was younger brother of Iqbal’s close friend.
He said the culprits used to keep the boy in a stolen vehicle and also spent nights in the vehicle after parking it at some deserted places to avoid arrest. The police have recovered illegal weapons and stolen car from them.
Zubair and Idrees told the police that they had fixed a revolving light on their vehicle so that police at pickets could not stop them for checking.
The DIG said the police would launch an operation in the coming week against vehicles with tinted glass, fancy registration number plates and would stop the misuse of revolving lights on private vehicles.
