LISBON, July 21: Israel has deliberately bombed civilian targets in Lebanon, including trucks carrying food, in recent days, a Portuguese woman who fled the country said on Friday as she arrived in Lisbon.

“Israel has been bombing civilians. On the day we left, Wednesday, they bombed a truck that was transporting fruit,” Carolina Arbaji, who is married to a Lebanese and has lived in Beirut for the past six years, told TSF radio.

“They have done this constantly in the past few days because they feel a truck could be carrying weapons so they have bombed several trucks, a convent was bombed, they have bombed various civilian targets,” she added.

Ms Arbaji said the Israeli bombardments were disproportionate. “They are destroying a country. With a rock you respond with a rock, you don’t respond with a bombing campaign,” she said. “Beirut is deserted. Homes are closed, stores are closed, companies are closed and people are very frightened. It’s sad.”—AFP
