ISLAMABAD: Young Pakistani students won laurels by winning titles of world champions and best delegation awards at the Global Model UN Singapore.

The Pakistani delegation was declared World Champions and Best Delegation, competing against more than 700 students from over 50 countries in one of the most authentic simulations of the United Nations, organised by World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA).

A team of 10 students from Westminster Islamabad represented Pakistan and won the awards, securing eight best Diplomacy Awards and two plenary speech spots.

Four members of the delegation: Rujwa Fatima, Mohammad Zurez, Asna Ahmad and Syed Rehan Shah were only 12 years old but they performed brilliantly to receive huge appreciation.

Similarly, Nushwa Fatima and Saifullah Omar Mufti were among only 12 students worldwide shortlisted to address the opening ceremony before an international audience representing over 50 countries with full confidence and perfection.

Young Nushwa in her inspiring speech also spoke about the need for multilateralism, rights of Muslims of Gaza and the recommendations for UN reforms to bring equity and justice on the global level.

According to a press release, beyond diplomacy and debates, the students also represented the rich national and regional culture of Pakistan at the Global Cultural Night organised by the conference on August 14.

“The work ethic, professionalism, talent and diplomatic brilliance of the young minds were praised by the UN officials and the participating nations,” read the press release. The event took place from August 11-15.
