RAWALPINDI, July 20: The federal government has directed the four provincial governments and the chief commissioner of Islamabad Capital Territory to freeze the bank accounts of 42 suspected members of the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), an official source told Dawn on Thursday.

The source said of the 42 suspected members, 25 belong to the Bugti family. They include former chief minister Akbar Khan Bugti, Agha Shahid Bugti, Mir Chakkar Bugti, son of Talal Bugti, Durdana Bugti, daughter of Akbar Khan Bugti, three sons-in-law of Akbar Khan Bugti, namely Chaakar Domki, Hazoor Baksh Domki and Aghar Zahid, Shameerah Maparah, wife of Jamil Bugti, Gohram Bugti, Maryam Shaheen Bugti, Talal Bugti, Zainab Bugti, Noor Jahan, wife of Talal Bugti, Shahzain Bugti, son of Talal Bugti, and Mir Ali Saleem Bugti.

Facing similar actions are three wives of Akbar Khan Bugti — Gamon Bugti, Gohar Taj and Ameena Bugti — as well as Anita Bugti, wife of Jamil Bugti, Muhammad Bakhtiar Domki, Sher Ali Mazari, Jamil Bugti, son of Muhammad Akbar Khan Bugti, Tabish Bugti and Brahamdagh Khan Bugti.

Also included in the list are: Khair Baksh Marri, two sons of Khair Bakhsh Marri, namely Mir Gazain Marri and Hamza Marri, and four daughters of Hayerbiar Marri, namely Mahreen Marri, Mashaan Khudija, Jia Marri, Maryan Marri.

Others are: Laila Z. Mengal, Rameezah Marri, Khodayar Marri, Bazeer Marri, Haseena Marri, Changez Marri, son of Khair Baksh Marri, Fahmina Marri, Maryam Marri, Balaach Marri, Suraya Khair Bakhsh Marri and Hayerbiar Marri, son of Khair Bakhsh Marri.

The government move is aimed at squeezing BLA’s funding network, said the source.
