ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed the digitalisation of the entire government record to facilitate citizens in accessing government services.

Presiding over a meeting on reforms in the National Information Technology Board (NITB), progress on the Islamabad Technology Park and ongoing reforms in the information technology sector, the prime minister ordered the provision of easy, efficient and modern digital services to citizens.

“All relevant institutions should work in an integrated manner to ensure the timely, transparent and convenient delivery of digital services to citizens,” he said, according to a press release issued by the PM Office. “Facilitating citizens in accessing government services is the government’s priority,” he added.

He directed to further improve all government digital platforms in line with contemporary requirements. The transition of federal ministries to e-office was among the most important reforms undertaken in the areas of IT and digital transformation, he said.

He said the use of e-office be ensured across all state departments and state-owned enterprises of the federal government. He also ordered the authorities to accelerate the digitisation of public institutions and make full use of modern technology. He further directed that the digitisation of records of all government properties be completed at the earliest.

PM Shehbaz expressed displeasure over delays in the completion of the Islamabad Technology Park and directed that its construction be completed as soon as possible and the facility made operational on a priority basis. “The Islamabad Technology Park should be fully outsourced for its operation.”

The meeting was informed that the NITB had already undergone right-sizing and that appointments to key positions were being made through a transparent process. The meeting was also briefed that all federal ministries had shifted to the e-office system, while efforts were underway to promote its use in other departments and state-owned entities.
