MOHMAND: Police in Mohmand district have arrested a man for allegedly uploading a video containing the Indian flag and the slogan “Jai Hind” on his Facebook account in connection with India’s Independence Day.
Police identified the suspect as Zeeshan, son of Iqbal, a resident of Kuz Gandao, Halimzai tehsil of the Mohmand district.
According to officials, the video featured the Indian flag and depicted celebrations marking India’s Independence Day.
District police officer (DPO) Mohmand Raza Mohammad took notice of the social media post and directed DSP Ghalanai circle Khalid Khan to initiate legal action against the suspect.
Acting on the instructions, Ghalanai station house officer (SHO) Murad Khan took prompt action and arrested the suspect.
Police said a case had been registered against him at Ghalanai police station under the relevant provisions of the law.
The police said they were also investigating the involvement of other individuals allegedly linked to the incident, adding that action would be taken against anyone found violating the law.
Officials reiterated that the police would continue to monitor unlawful activities on social media and take action in accordance with the law. They also urged citizens to use social media responsibly and refrain from sharing content that could result in legal or public-order issues.
