ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)’s Emergency Response Committee (ERC) has emphasised the need for all relevant departments and response agencies to maintain close coordination and ensure timely implementation of preparedness and response measures during the current monsoon season.

The committee also stressed the importance of proactive measures at the district level to minimise risks and ensure the safety of vulnerable communities. The ERC held a meeting on Tuesday at the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) in Islamabad with Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal in the chair via video link.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Malik, Minister for Water Resources Mian Mohammad Mueen Wattoo, Punjab Minister for Health and Emergency Services Khawaja Salman Rafique, Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, representatives of Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD)and senior officials from relevant departments.

The committee reviewed the prevailing monsoon situation across the country, hydrological conditions, weather outlook, preparedness measures and coordinated emergency response arrangements.

The NEOC presented a situational briefing, highlighting the latest weather forecasts, river flows, vulnerable locations and anticipated impacts of the ongoing monsoon spell.
