THATTA: The irrigation department has claimed that presently there is no shortage of water in the tail-end areas fed through the Khanani, Indo, Darsi and Maleriri distributaries.

A spokesperson for the department said that all canals and distributaries were being operated under the approved water distribution system and that irrigation water was reaching the designated tail-ends.

“During the early Kharif season of 2026, there had been a reduction in the flow of the Indus River, which had led to the temporary implementation of a rotational water distribution plan to ensure fair allocation of available water in command areas. However, with the improvement in river flow, no rotational plan is currently in effect,” said the spokesperson.

He added: “Field staff is regularly monitoring water discharge and levels at the head, middle, and tail reaches of the distributaries to ensure proper and equitable distribution of irrigation water. The current situation has also been verified through field inspections”.

He further stated that GPS-tagged photographs from relevant sites were obtained today (Monday) and provided to the Information Department for confirmation and record of the present water situation.
