GUJRAT: A 17-year-old girl, who was allegedly gang-raped by five suspects, later “died by suicide” under mysterious circumstances at Sanda village in Mandi Bahauddin district in Miana Gondal police precincts on Monday.

The complainant, Zulfiqar Ahmed, of Sanda village told police that he had gone to a local shop to buy something, leaving his daughter “M” (17) alone at his house.

He said that when he returned, he found his daughter lying dead.

Explaining the reason for the his daughter’s extreme step, he said that in his absence, five suspects of the same village allegedly abducted ‘M’ and took her to a place in the area, where they subjected her to gang rape and later dropped her at his house.

He added that as his daughter was dejected over her ordeal, she took poisonous pills and ended her life.

As per police sources, there were also cuts on the wrists of the girl’s body.

The police, however, registered a case against the five nominated suspects under Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with an unlawful act without any intention to cause death or harm, but that act accidentally results in someone’s death.

The police say they have begun investigation into the matter after registration of the case, adding that the allegation of gang rape is yet to be ascertained as medical report of the victim is awaited.

The forensic evidence will be sent for examination to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) lab, they add.

No arrest could be made in the case so far.
