SAHIWAL: Five officials of Sahiwal Central Jail were suspended from service after a departmental inquiry found them guilty of unauthorised removal of articles from the prison’s grain godown (store) without prior approval of the competent authority and in violation of prescribed procedures.
A fact-finding committee, constituted to probe the matter, recommended disciplinary proceedings under the Punjab Emloyee Efficiency Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act, 2016, against Deputy Superintendent (Executive) Mohammad Ahmed, Storekeeper Khuram Nawaz, Warder (Imdadi Store) Shehzad, Head Warder Mukhtar Ahmed and Warder Yasin.
Newly appointed Jail Superintendent Zubair Cheema told Dawn on phone that all the five officials have been suspended from service.
The superintendent said that these officials were accused of unauthorised removal of grain store items, including 20kg tins of cooking oil and a large quantity of white grams, which were taken out of the jail premises in a vehicle.
Following the allegations, Prisons DIG Kamran Anjum was directed to conduct a fact-finding probe into the matter.
The inquiry report declared them guilty, concluding that the officials failed to exercise effective supervision and neglected their duties under defined procedures and protocols.
The report noted that the store team and the deputy superintendent failed to ensure proper accounting, documentation, authorisation, and control over the movement of grain store articles, resulting in serious procedural lapses.
It was further established that the items were removed without obtaining approval from the competent authority.
GANG-RAPED: A woman was allegedly gang-raped by three armed men in front of her husband and children at Kachi Abadi, Kameer Town, late on Sunday night.
Kameer Police registered a case under section 375-A of the PPC against the three suspects on the complaint of the victim, ‘B’.
According to the FIR, ‘B’ was asleep in her mud house, along with her husband and two children, when, around 2am, the suspects allegedly barged in and subjected her to gang rape.
When her husband tried to rescue her, the suspects tortured him with pistol buts.
The rapists also threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter.
