SWAT: Students of different colleges on Monday staged a protest against the death of a student in a shooting incident on the premises of Jahanzeb College.
Students of Jahanzeb College, Kabal and Takhta Band degree colleges participated in the demonstration held on the premises of the new campus of Jahanzeb College.
Insaf Student Federation’s Izhar of Kabal Degree College led the protest. The protesters demanded a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident and called for all aspects of the case to be brought to light.
According to protesters, a student allegedly fired a shot at himself inside the college, resulting in his death at the scene. They demanded that if negligence on the part of the college administration or any relevant official is established, those responsible should be proceeded against in accordance with the law.
The protesters also called for an effective and comprehensive security system at educational institutions to ensure student safety. They said colleges and other educational institutions are responsible for providing a safe environment for students and any negligence regarding security is unacceptable.
During the protest, the students blocked Saidu Sharif Road to traffic.
Later, DSP Saidu Circle Shahenshah Khan, SHO Saidu Sharif Ziaur Rehman and AAC Babuzai Imran Ali Shah held talks with the protesting students and took them to the DSP’s office for negotiations.
Following the talks, Saidu Sharif Road was reopened to traffic. The students reiterated that their primary demands were a transparent investigation into the incident, identification of those responsible and effective security arrangements to protect students at educational institutions.
