TOBA TEK SINGH: Smart water meter installation project has been launched byFaisalabad Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) with the support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the first of its kind in Punjab.
In a meeting held on Sunday with Wasa Managing Director (MD) Saqib Raza in the chair, JICA experts informed that 8,400 modern smart water meters will be installed in Faisalabad in the first phase of the project to be managed by Wasa.
They said the new system, using modern technology, will enable Wasa to remotely monitor water usage,identify wastage and leakage and initiate automatic meter reading.
The project will be linked to the existing digital system of Wasa, they added. The Wasa MD said smart metering will promote transparent billing, better revenue and effective water management, while help reducing energy costs and ensuring equitable water distribution.
He further said that Wasa is crossing another important milestone towards providing modern, transparent and effective water services to the citizens, including implementation of smart water meter project with the help of Japanese experts.
Meanwhile, Faisalabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Noman Siddique visited the Wasa bottling plant and conducted a detailed inspection of water quality, filtration, processing and bottling.
He also reviewed the water quality testing process, laboratory reports and related records.
He directed better cleaning, filtration and storage arrangements in the bottling plant.
ROAD REMODELING: Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh has said that remodeling of Faislabad’s Canal Road from Abdullahpur Chowk to Gatwala is essential to provide citizens with safe, convenient and uninterrupted travel facilities.
The commissioner said this in a meeting, where Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Director General Muhammad Asif presented the proposed remodeling plan for the Canal Road.
The DG said that the FDA engineers had prepared the plan after conducting a comprehensive technical and traffic engineering study aimed at making traffic flow on the Canal Road smoother, safer and more modern.
The proposed plan includes the construction of two new bridges on the Canal Road, two additional U-turns on each side, removal of 10 unnecessary ramps, and construction of four new ramps to connect the road with the service roads, in accordance with traffic engineering principles.
