3 die in LTTE ambush

JAFFNA, July 19: Two officers and a soldier were killed and 11 more injured on Wednesday in a claymore mine attack in northern Jaffna.

A captain, a lieutenant and a lance corporal were killed when a bus carrying troops home for their vacation was ambushed by LTTE cadres, a military spokes-man said.

Three civilians who had been passing by were also injured in the explosion, Samarasinghe said.

Five of the 11 soldiers wounded in the ambush were in serious condition, military sources said.

The bus was carrying 15 military personnel home for their holidays in the south of the country.
