SAHIWAL: The matriculation results of 409 candidates appearing in the Secondary School Certificate (First Annual) Examination 2026 has been halted by the Sahiwal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) due to discrepancies in their fee vouchers.
According to a statement issued by the board, the accounts department had been tasked with auditing and reconciling the paid fee vouchers of all candidates who appeared in the examination with actual bank statements.
It is important to note that a four-member high-level fact finding committee was formed by the commissioner to probe alleged financial irregularities in fees vouchers.
According to the official figures, around 276,999 students appeared in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 examinations this year. Allegations surfaced that deposits of some students, who had submitted their regular examination fees of around Rs4,000-4,500 on prescribed challan forms, were not reflected in bank statements.
This raised concerns of alleged financial embezzlement, mismanagement and possible financial irregularities.
Assistant Commissioner Gulam Hussain, having additional charge of board secretary since January 2026, confirmed to Dawn that a probe was underway, however, because the matric result had been announced, some results had been halted. He said the committee was scrutinising all the examination fee challans.
Commissioner Office Development & Finance Director and fact-finding committee head Shafique Ahmad Dogar told Dawn that the report was being finalised and it would take another 2-3 days.
It is learnt that a facilitation center has been formed at the BISE Sahiwal premises where any affected student can consult and submit his fee challan data.
CHARGES DROPPED: District Courts Judicial Magistrate Khawaja Mahad Hussain on Saturday discharged a criminal case against six Pakistan TehreekiInsaf (PTI) workers and office-bearers.
In the case, 12 PTI workers, including six unidentified persons, were booked by the Bahadur Shah Police on August 6 for organising a protest rally on Muhammadpur Road to mark the third anniversary of Imran Khan’s arrest. At the protest, they demanded the immediate release of the PTI founder.
Those discharged from the case include Bahawal Sher, Javed Naseer, Ali Sher, Amir Shahzad, Zakir Ali and Arshad.
Meanwhile, Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Azfar Siyal also accepted the interim bail applications of PTI City President Shahid Chohan, City General Secretary Rizwan Muzaffar, Senior West Punjab Vice President Muhammad Yar Damrah, and Sahiwal Tehsil General Secretary Muhammad Shahbaz Khera. Their interim bail had been extended until September 3.
Around 35 PTI workers, office-bearers and ticket holders were booked by the Sahiwal City Police in two separate cases for blocking roads and disrupting traffic during protests at Ghala Mandi, Liaqat Chowk and Jinnah Chowk on August 5.
Police sources claimed that raids were conducted at the homes of PTI leaders and workers on the nights of August 5-6, though those directly involved in the protests evaded arrest.
However, the Ghala Mandi Police detained the two sons of PTI City Secretary Rizwan Muzaffar Shah — Sajawal Haider Shah and Syed Hussain Bukhari — while the Harappa Police arrested Ali Arshad Damrah, the brother of PTI ticket-holder Muhammad Yar Damrah, along with Shahzad Haider Kheera.
