SARGODHA: The anti-corruption establishment (ACE) on Thursday claimed to have arrested the main suspect in an alleged case of embezzlement of government’s wheat worth Rs13.6 million from the Shah Nikdar food center through forgery.
According to details, Sargodha ACE regional director received information from the Sargodha district food controller about the theft of wheat from the food center. On this, ACE initiated an inquiry and when the allegations were proven, a case was registered against Food Grain Inspector Agha Abbas and others for theft and misappropriation of government wheat through fraud and abuse of authority.
A special team was formed under the supervision of ACE Assistant Director (Investigation) Tasawar Abbas Bosal and during investigation, the team inspected the records and visited the food center and collected evidence of theft and misappropriation and recorded the statements of witnesses. As per the inquiry, the suspect allegedly stole 2,176 bags of 50kg bags worth Rs13.6 million and fabricated the records showing the wheat perished due to insect infestation.
On this, the arrest orderse were issued and accused Wasim Khan Bhadwal went into hiding to avoid arrest. The ACE team conducted a raid under the supervision of Assistant Director (Investigation) Tasawar Abbas Bosaland arrested Bhadwal. The suspect was produced before a local magistrate and a four-day physical remand had been granted to ACE and further investigation was underway.
INJURED IN CLASH: A 35-year-old youth was seriously injured in a clash between two groups in Sargodha when the other group opened fire on him.
According to the police, Mohsin (35) was seriously injured in the clash in village Bhabra of Kot Momin town of Sargodha. He was shifted to the Kot Momin THQ Hospital and police were investigating the incident.
ACCIDENT: One person was killed and two others were injured in separate road accidents near Sargodha.
According to the police, 54-year-old Muhammad Saeed from Jhang and 73-year-old Muhammad Riaz from Jhang were seriously injured when a speeding 22-wheeler trailer crushed their motorcycle near the Sahiwal town on the Sargodha-Jhang Road.
In another accident, 35-year-old Murtaza Yousuf from Lalian was killed when a high-speed dumper crushed his motorcycle near the Luxian Toll Plaza on the Sargodha-Lahore Road. Police were investigating both incidents.
Separately, a fire broke out in a van in Sargodha due to a short circuit near the Langarwala Bridge on the Jhelum River in Sargodha. The fire was brought under control and no one was killed or injured in the incident.
HEAT STROKE: Two youths lost their lives due to heat stroke in Sargodha city.
According to police, a 17-year-old youth named Amir allegedly lost his life in the Corporation Town area of Sargodha city, while another person identified as 42-year-old Asghar Abbas of Bhalwal died near the DHQ Teaching Hospital gate in the city.
