SUKKUR: The Model Criminal Trial Court Khairpur has sentenced a man to death for murdering a 25-year-old woman in the name of so-called honour.

The court also handed down life imprisonment to two co-accused in the case pertaining to the murder of 25-year-old Gulzar Khatoon, wife of Sabir Hussain Mirbahar, around six years ago.

According to details, Judge Liaqat Ali Khoso of the Model Criminal Trial Court Khairpur found prime accused Ali Murad, son of Hadi Bakhsh Mirbahar, guilty and awarded him capital punishment.

The court while sentencing accused Nadir Ali, son of Shahbaz Dino Mirbahar, and Shahbaz Dino, son of Hadi Bakhsh Mirbahar to life in prison observed that the prosecution had proved charges against the trio beyond a shadow of a doubt.

The court imposed a fine of Rs200,000 on all the three convicts. If they failed to pay the amount of fine, they would have to serve an additional two years of imprisonment.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on the two co-accused. In case of default, the duo would have to undergo an additional one-month imprisonment.

Accused Ali Murad was also tried for possessing an illegal weapon used in the commissioning of the offence,

The court also found him guilty and sentenced Murad to 11 years of rigorous imprisonment.

It imposed a fine of Rs80,000 and in case of default he would have to undergo an additional month of imprisonment.

All the accused were on bail. Following the pronouncement of the verdict, the court cancelled their bail and ordered them to be arrested and sent to jail to serve out their sentence.

According to the prosecution, on November 11, 2020, the three accused entered the house of Sabir Hussain Mirbahar, levelled allegations of impropriety against his wife, Gulzar Khatoon, and opened fire with a pistol within the jurisdiction of the B-Section police station in village Manik, near Waris Gambhir.

As a result, she suffered critical bullet wounds and died before reaching the hospital.

During the trial, the heirs of the deceased woman submitted an affidavit in court requesting that the accused be pardoned and the case dismissed. However, the court rejected the affidavit and continued hearing the case and passed the conviction order after hearing and recording evidence from all sides.
