Pakistan edge Korea to clinch hockey series

ISLAMABAD: Maintaining their unbeaten run, Pakistan downed South Korea 4-3 in a thrilling third Test to win their four-match series here at the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.

Taking an aggressive start, South Korea took lead in the 10th minute through Kim Hyeongjin who scored a beautiful goal on a penalty corner.

No team could score after this till the end of the second quarter as the visitors held a 1-0 lead.

Pakistan responded brilliantly in the second half as Hayat Zakria equalised with a field goal in the 32nd minute.

However, Korea hit back in the very next minute when Jang Ji Hun put them ahead 2-1 on a penalty corner. Pakistan retaliated strongly as Rana Waheed Ashraf scored a field goal in the 45th minute to make it two all.

Five minutes later, Kim Yong stunned the spectators by scoring a field goal to give Korea a 3-2 lead.

Making a superb comeback at this stage, Pakistan scored two goals through Abdul Reham and Shahid Hanan in field attempts in the 55th and 57th minutes, respectively to win the match and the series.

The fourth match of the series will be staged on Friday at the same venue.
