OKARA: A man allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp-edged weapon and injured his five-year-old daughter during a domestic dispute in the Faizabad locality.
According to the FIR, suspect Ijaz Ahmad allegedly assaulted his wife, Haleema Bibi, following an argument over a household issue. During the attack, he reportedly inflicted injuries on Haleema with a sharp-edged weapon and fractured the forearm of their five-year-old daughter, Sadia, after allegedly throwing her against a cot.
Hearing the screams, neighbours rushed to the house, rescued the mother and daughter, and shifted them to the DHQ Hospital.
After receiving a call on the Police Helpline 15, a patrol team led by Sub-Inspector Tariq Mahmood reached the house in Faizabad, where Haleema Bibi narrated the incident. On her complaint, City A-Division Police registered a case against Ijaz under the relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code, including Section 324.
DPO Dr Asad Malhi took notice of the incident, particularly the assault on the minor girl. Police claimed to have arrested the suspect.
ACCIDENT: A 45-year-old motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a tractor-trolley near Kutchery Chowk in Depalpur.
Zafar, a resident of Chak 39/D, died on the spot. Rescue 1122 personnel shifted the body to the THQ Hospital, Depalpur.
ALLOTMENT: Under the first phase of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Apna Khait–Apna Rozgar scheme, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ikram Malik, accompanied by MPA Mian Muhammad Munir and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Muhammad Shajeen, distributed allotment letters among 102 landless farmers at a ceremony held at a local marquee.
The beneficiaries include 29 people from Okara tehsil, 63 from Depalpur, and 10 from Renala Khurd. Each allottee received between five and 10 acres of agricultural land under the Punjab government’s initiative.
Officials said the scheme aims to increase agricultural production while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for landless families. Each allottee will also receive a grant of Rs50,000 per acre to help develop and cultivate the allotted land.
