United States Central Command (Centcom) says it has helped more than 1,000 ships cross the Strait of Hormuz since early May.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, a spokesperson adds that Centcom’s forces remain on high alert and are ready to support commercial ships wishing to cross the strategic waterway, through which about 20 per cent of the world’s oil passes in peacetime.
