LAHORE: The provincial government on Saturday appointed Irfan Sadiq Tarar as Prosecutor General of Punjab.

The post had fallen vacant following Farhad Ali Shah’s nomination as an additional judge of the Lahore High Court.

The Punjab government issued a formal notification for the appointment of Tarar as prosecutor general in terms of Section 6 of the Punjab Criminal Prosecution Service Act 2006 for a period of three years.

Affiliated to Ahsan Bhoon-led Independent group, Tarar has previously served as vice chairman of the Punjab Bar Council and vice president of the Lahore Bar Association.
