CHARSADDA: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Flour Dealers Association on Friday rejected the provincial government’s current pricing and distribution mechanism for the official flour quota, urging the chief minister and relevant authorities to review the policy in consultation with stakeholders.

Talking to reporters here, the association’s president Abdul Waheed and joint secretary Ayaz Mohammad said that fixing the price of the official flour quota without consulting the representative body of flour dealers was regrettable.

They claimed that the existing pricing policy was causing financial losses to flour dealers instead of providing them with a reasonable profit margin.

They pointed out that a 20-kilogram flour bag was priced at Rs2,200 in Punjab, while the same quantity cost Rs2,520 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Terming the price disparity unjustified, they said that the current mechanism had made it difficult for dealers to continue supplying flour under the official quota.

They urged the chief minister and other relevant authorities to hold consultation with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Flour Dealers Association to review the official flour quota policy including its pricing structure, distribution mechanism and dealers’ profit margins.

They said a revised policy formulated in consultation with stakeholders would help ensure the uninterrupted supply of flour to consumers at affordable prices while safeguarding the interests of dealers.

The association expressed the hope that the provincial government would address its concerns and take steps to introduce a practical pricing mechanism benefiting both consumers and flour dealers.
