KARACHI: A brother of outlawed Peoples Amn Committee chief Uzair Baloch was shot at and hurt critically in Lyari on Thursday evening, police said.
DIG-South Syed Asad Raza said Zubair Baloch, 40, was sitting outside his residence in Singu Lane when assailants on a motorbike emerged there, opened indiscriminate firing and rode away.
He, along with two passers-by, sustained multiple bullet wounds and was rushed to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, where his condition was said to be critical.
The Chakiwara police identified the two passers-by as Abdul Rauf, 45, and Abu Bakar, 18.
The DIG said that Zubair Baloch is a brother of Uzair Baloch. He was arrested in seven criminal cases in 2012 and was released in January 2025.
He said the police were investigating the incident from different angles, including gang-war rivalry and personal enmity.
Rickshaw driver killed
A 30-year-old man was gunned down in Manghopir area on Thursday.
Area SHO Raja Zulfiqar Haider said Shoukat Ali, a rickshaw driver, was on his way when armed men fired multiple shots at him and fled.
He sustained around 10 bullet wounds and died on the spot.
The victim had married a woman of their free will a couple of months ago.
