QUETTA: A group of armed men blocked the Quetta-Taftan Highway in Chagai district and set fire to at least five oil tankers heading towards Taftan on Sunday.

Police officials, while confirming the incident, said that over a dozen suspected terrorists blocked the N-40 highway at Nokcha, intercepted five oil tankers and completely burnt them.

“The tankers were empty and were returning to the border town of Taftan for bringing Iranian oil,” an official said, adding that no loss of life was reported in the incident.

Officials said the attackers, who were riding motorcycles, had escaped from the spot after setting the tankers ablaze before security forces reached the area after receiving information.

Bodies found

Separately, police found the bodies of two men in the Mashkay area of Balochistan and launched an investigation into the incident, officials said.

According to police, the bodies were shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.

One of the deceased was identified as Imran, a resident of Khuzdar, while the identity of the second victim could not be immediately established.

After completion of legal procedures, the unidentified body was placed in the hospital morgue for identification, while police continued their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths and identify the second victim.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of death or provided further details about the incident. Police said further investigation was underway.
