RAWALPINDI: A landslide triggered by rain in Lower Dhak Misri, Murree, destroyed three houses, while no injuries were reported as the houses had already been vacated.

Residents of adjoining areas feared that further landslides could affect nearby residential areas. However, the district administration said the area was being monitored by engineers and that no further landslides were expected.

Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi told Dawn that continuous monitoring and supervision of relief and rehabilitation activities for families affected by the landslide in Lower Dhak Misri were underway.

He said that in March, six houses were affected by a landslide, and the families had been evacuated to safer places. “Following Saturday’s rain, three more houses, which had already been vacated, were destroyed,” he said.

He said that, according to the assessment carried out by geological engineers, the landslide had stabilised due to the presence of a natural nullah between the residential area and the affected site, and no further expansion of the landslide was expected.

He said officials of the district administration visited the affected area of Lower Dhak Misri and reviewed the ongoing relief and rehabilitation activities, debris removal work, and the facilities being provided to the affected families.

He said that, in line with the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, all possible assistance had been extended to the affected families.

Relief efforts and the provision of essential facilities were continuing, while the district administration and other relevant departments were utilising all available resources to rehabilitate the affected families and restore normal life in the area at the earliest.
