LAHORE, July 16: PIA has increased fare by 10 to 30 per cent on routes where Boeing has been introduced in place of Fokker planes, which were grounded after the July 10 crash.

An official told Dawn on Saturday that the national carrier had so far been charging economical fares by declaring the routes non-commercial.

The Lahore-Islamabad Fokker return fare was Rs4,080, which has been increased to Rs5,900. Similarly, the Lahore-Peshawar fare has been increased from Rs5,400 to Rs6,660, Lahore-Rahim Yar Khan from Rs5,920 to Rs8,230, Lahore-Dera Ghazi Khan from Rs4,740 to Rs6,080, Lahore-Multan from Rs4,200 to Rs4,670 and Lahore-Bahawalpur from Rs4,180 to Rs4,520.

Earlier two flights a day were scheduled between Lahore and Multan. Now one Boeing flight is operating. There were five flights a day between Lahore and Islamabad, including two of Fokker, which have now been curtailed to three. Sources said there were chances that the route of one Lahore-Islamabad flight could be extended to Peshawar. The schedule planning department was also contemplating to reschedule the number of flights for Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan and Rahim Yar Khan.
