LAHORE, July 16: The PPP people who won the 2002 general elections or lost with small margins will be the party candidates in the next elections.

This was decided at a meeting held in London on Sunday under the chairmanship of Ms Benazir Bhutto.

Party sources say that remaining seats will be left open.

PPP legislators and office-bearers from the Gujranwala division, provincial and central office-bearers attended the meeting.

Prominent among participants were Qasim Zia, Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan, Farzana Raja, Jehangir Badr, Sherry Rehman, Khalid Kharal, Shah Mehmud Qureshi, Dr Safdar Abbasi, Naheed Khan, Azma Bukhari, Begum Beelam Hasnain, Aurangzeb Burki and Ejaz Samma.

Situation on all seats of the Gujranwala division came under discussion.

Ms Bhutto directed all party leaders and workers to shun differences to defeat their rivals with bigger margins in the next polls. She urged them to create unity in their ranks.

The PPP chairperson will now preside over a meeting of MNAs and senators on July 19.

It is said that the proposed no-confidence motion against the prime minister may come up for discussion at the meeting.
