HYDERABAD, July 14: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on Thursday distributed compensation cheques for Rs4.550 million among relatives of the victims of the Tando Bahawal carnage.

About nine people were kidnapped from the village in 1992 and killed in a fake encounter as bandits.

Speaking at a ceremony at the district nazim secretariat here, Mr Jamil said the compensation included Rs300,000 and 24 acres of land for each deceased and Rs100,000 from Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim to Mai Jindo.

He said that since the land given to the heirs of the deceased was not fertile, the Sindh government had granted compensation of Rs5 million against total land of 72 acres previously allotted to them in Thatta on their own request.

He said that an amount of Rs1.666 million came to the share of each heir of the deceased out of the compensation amount of Rs5 million.

He said that since one deceased son of Mai Jindo was unmarried and the other son was married but had no child and his wife had remarried, the compensation amount of both the deceased was being given to Mai Jindo and father Imam Bux with their own shares.

According to their shares, Mai Jindo received a compensation cheque for Rs972,221 and father Imam Bux received cheque for Rs1.944 million.

The district nazim said that the matter of remaining amount of Rs450,000 as share of deceased Manthar’s wife, Ms Rozi Nisa, had been forwarded for Sharia decision for her right as she had remarried and was living with her husband.

The nazim distributed regular income certificates (saving certificates) among minor children of deceased Haji Akram, son-in-law of Mai Jindo.

According to due share, the nazim gave regular income certificate (saving certificates) of Rs1.111 million to the son of deceased, Master Gul Mohammad, 15, and saving certificates of Rs277,500 each to two daughters Zahida, 16, and Heer, 14.

The nazim said that since children of deceased Haji Akram were minors as such their regular income certificates (saving certificates) would remain in the custody of EDO (revenue) and children would get benefit of Rs12,815 per month regularly.
