KARACHI: The Sindh police have launched a fresh probe into the 2021 disappearance of Priya Kumari — who was about nine-year-old when she went missing — amid renewed frantic calls for her recovery.

This was emerged on Thursday during a briefing of the Sindh police high ups to a meeting of the Minority Caucus — a bipartisan legislative forum established to safeguard the constitutional rights of non-Muslim communities.

The meeting was chaired by Senator Danesh Kumar at the Sindh chief secretary’s office. It took up and agenda of multiple items relating to religious minorities in the province.

One of the item was a comprehensive updated briefing from the Sindh IGP on the status and progress of the investigation into the Priya Kumari’s alleged kidnapping.

The police authorities informed the meeting that a fresh inquiry was launched and that all efforts were being made for her early and safe recovery.

Priya Kumari had gone missing in August 2021 when she was serving free cold drinks at a sabeel on Ashura day in Sangrar town near Sukkur.

The meeting was briefed on the law and order and crime control operations in Ghouskot village of Kandhkot taluka, focusing on the effect on minorities and the response and conduct of the police in this regard.
