KARACHI: Work has started on development projects in major industrial areas under a Rs9.281 billion special grant announced by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, with several work orders already issued and the remaining projects expected to begin in the coming days.

The update was shared during the sixth meeting of the Oversight Committee held at the Commissioner Office. The meeting was chaired by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Thursday to review the progress of the development package and monitor its implementation.

A statement issued after the meeting said that the representatives of industrial associations and industrial development management companies told the meeting that work orders for a number of projects had already been issued, while procurement for the remaining schemes was in its final stages.

“The initiative reflected the Sindh government’s commitment to improving infrastructure in Karachi’s industrial areas and supporting the city’s business community,” the statement quoted the mayor as saying. “For the first time, the entire development grant had been transferred directly to industrial zone associations, allowing them to execute projects according to their own priorities without going through lengthy government procedures.”
