PESHAWAR: A child died and two others were injured with one in critical condition when a hand grenade went off outside the house of a scrap dealer on Pajagi Road here on Thursday, police said.
They said that three minor girls were playing outside their home and had probably picked up the hand grenade.
“According to initial information, the bomb went off killing a minor girl while two other girls sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital,” police said, adding that the police have cordoned off the area and an investigation was launched into incident.
A statement issued by the city police later confirmed the incident. It said that the explosion took place outside the house of Ajmal, a scrap dealer, and added that the injured minor girls were Ajmal’s daughters. The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) confirmed that it was a hand grenade explosion.
“We initially received information about a cylinder explosion but later when we reached, BDU recovered a safety pin of a hand grenade,” ASP Chamkani Hamid Ehsan Warriach told Dawn.
