GUJRAT: A four-year-old girl was allegedly set ablaze by her mother and siblings on suspicion of black magic and jinn possessing her in Gujranwala’s Aroop locality on Thursday.

Police have arrested the mother and three siblings of the victim, including a sister and two brothers, while the victim girl is said to be in a critical condition at city’s DHQ Hospital.

Reports said Mirha was brought to the Gujranwala DHQ Hospital due to the critical burn injuries.

The initial investigation said she was set on fire in an exorcism after the family suspected that she was being influenced by black magic and a jinn.

A Gujranwala Police spokesperson said the mother identified as Lubna along with her daughter Muzamil Bibi and sons Muneeb and Haseeb had been arrested for allegedly committing the gruesome crime.

He said that CPO Dr Ghias Gulhad assigned the investigation of the incident to a team under the Civil Lines SP, whereas the case was yet to be lodged.

He said the suspects offered stiff resistance while being arrested and the CPO was committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
