ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: Taking notice of the escape of under trial prisoners while being shifted to Adiala jail from Kahuta on Monday, the Punjab Inspector General of Police has suspended the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Headquarters and transferred the Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Headquarters Rawalpindi for negligence, while the Islamabad police have arrested five police officials guarding the prisoners van.
On the other hand, the police of twin cities have launched a hunt for the ten under-trial-prisoners who escaped from the police custody after throwing chili powder into the eyes of police officials who were guarding them.
A notification issued by the Punjab police department said that Mudassar Iqbal (BS-18), Superintendent of Police (SP) Headquarters Rawalpindi was transferred to Central Police Officer Lahore, while DSP Headquarters Rawalpindi Imtiaz Ahmed was suspended on account of misconduct, inefficiency and directed to report to the Central Police Office Lahore.
A police official of the Islamabad police said that all the five police officials who were booked under Police Order 2002 under section 155-C and 155-D have been detained, and an investigation launched.
He said that police teams have been conducting raids to re-arrest the ten under-trial prisoners. The Rawalpindi police have already placed the police on alert at exit and entry points in Rawalpindi district.
