NAROWAL: A newly-married woman was strangled allegedly by her husband who set her body on fire because he wanted to contract a second marriage.

Ali Raza, a resident of village Maloke, Narowal district, has filed a complaint with the police that his sister, Nida Shaheen, was married to Hammad Sohail, a resident of Ghaziwal, three months ago. After the marriage, Hammad started torturing Nida on a daily basis as he wanted to contract another marriage.

On June 19, Hammad and his family members tortured Nida and threw her out of the house and she went to live with her parents.

On June 27, Hammad came to his in-laws, reconciled with Nida and took her back home. However, there was another quarrel in the house and Hammad, his brother, mother and father tortured Nida. Hammad strangled Nida and later set her body on fire.

The police reached the spot on getting information about the incident. Saddar Narowal Police Station has registered an FIR against Hammad, his brother Bilal, father Sohail and mother Naseem on the complaint of Nida’s brother.

The police have registered an FIR against the suspects and shifted the body to the District Headquarters Hospital Narowal for a post-mortem and necessary legal action.
