KARACHI, July 12: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has promulgated an ordinance for the establishment of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority to regulate procurement of goods, services and works in public sector.

The ordinance, titled Sindh Public Procurement Ordinance-2006, extends to whole of the province and has come into force with immediate effect, according to a handout issued here on Wednesday.

The regulatory authority will take steps for improving governance, management, transparency, accountability and quality in procurement of goods, services and works, besides evaluating, monitoring and implementing laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures involved.

The authority will also suggest new laws, rules, regulations, procedures or code of ethics for public procurement and quality maintenance as and when it deemed necessary to improve the overall performance of procuring agencies.

The authority would be governed by a board to be headed by ACS (development). The managing director of the board will be appointed by the government for three years.—PPI
