CAIRO: The Union of Morocco’s National Parties has urged the Security Council to take immediate steps to prevent the French Army “from perpetrating savage cruelties and wholesale destruction of crops in Morocco”. The Union alleged that France was ruthlessly violating human rights in Morocco and asked the Security Council to appoint a committee to investigate how far France has abided by her commitments in the UN.

Omar Bin Abdul Galil, Secretary of the Union, in cables … disclosed that French mechanised units have occupied the region of Beni Mallal, Khanifere and Kasaba. … “The French authorities indulging in looting, savage cruelties, robbery and destruction of harvests. They are also carrying away women, cattle, [jewellery] and furniture.”

“An example of their savagery is the [crucifixion] of some peasants on trees after inflicting upon them the worst kind of torture.” “In the face of such methods, the Moroccan people express their strong condemnation of these atrocities and appeal to world public opinion for help.” … Galil has since been arrested by the French authorities for sending this cable to the UN. — News agencies
