CAMPBELLPUR: The entire machinery of the Punjab Forest Department has been swung into action to fight one of the worst fires which broke out in the Kalachitta mountain range about 10 miles from Campbellpur — and was reported to be fast spreading. The fire, which has engulfed an area of about 20 square miles, is stated to have caused damage running into several lakhs of rupees. Rising spirals of smoke could be sighted from several miles away. The scarcity of water was described as the main handicap in effectively fighting the conflagration.
[Meanwhile, according to news agencies in Dacca,] The havoc wrought by a printer’s devil was perhaps never more devastating than yesterday [June 22] when a Dacca daily carried a Corrigendum in which a missing “n” made all the difference.
The correction said: “Printer’s devil pushed in our yesterday’s issue an incredulous mistake. Court Circular contained an item “His Excellency died with etc.” which was to be “His Excellency dined with etc.” The mistake is regretted.”
