Menace of COPYING CULTURE: The intermediate examinations of Mir-purkhas Board recently concluded, and, despite all the big talk by the provincial government, nothing changed. Days before the exams, WhatsApp groups were formed for cheating and almost every student had a mobile phone in the exa-mination hall. The examination centres for boys of Mithi were visited only once by the official team. It did not even check the examination slips. Apparently, the team was there to complete a formality and only have some pictures clicked. Furthermore, students had to face a plethora of problems like loadshedding, broken chairs and desks, and shortage of question papers during the exams.

CLIMATE ENGINEERING: Experts fear that conventional methods, such as renewable resources and emission reduction methods, fall truly short of reversing climate change impacts, suggesting climate engineering as a solution of last resort and an emergency brake. However, it does not come without drawbacks. For example, carbon dioxide (CO2) removal (CDR) is slow, expensive. Moreover, the approach lacks the ability to remove CO2 entirely from the environment. Besides, solar radiation modification (SRM) disrupts natural monsoon patterns, severely damaging agricultural regions. Apart from this, CO2 still remains in the environment, acidifying oceans and threathening the marine life. However, if the SRMs are halted, temperatures would rise with higher levels of CO2 in the atmosphere.

POLLUTED HARBOUR: The Karachi Fish Harbour is in a bad shape as there is garbage and pollution all around the place. The condition directly affects fishermen, public health, marine life, tourism and the environment. In fact, thousands of people depend on these waters for their livelihoods. National media should focus on environmental disasters that affect ordinary people.
