Woman, two daughters killed as truck overturns

ISLAMABAD: A woman and her two daughters were killed, while her niece was injured after an overloaded truck overturned on them due to speeding on late Wednesday night, police said.

The deceased were identified as Maria 35, and her daughters Amna 10 and Aisha 14. The injured as identified as Umaima, 23.

The woman and the three girls were walking along roadside at the Bharakahu Bypass near Filtration Plant. A truck loaded with the flour bags appeared from Murree side at high speed.

The driver lost control over the wheels due to over speeding and it turn over and fell on the woman and the girls. As a result all sustained multiple injuries and were shifted to hospital by Rescue 1122.

Maria and her daughters Amna and Aisha were pronounced dead at the emergency ward of the hospital. Medical assistance was given to Umaima and was kept in the hospital as her condition was critical.

After the accident the truck driver managed to escape. The police said efforts were in progress to trace the driver and the owner of the truck.

After getting the information of the incident the officials of the capital administration and police reached the spot.

Besides, crane was also called there. The vehicle was removed from the road and impounded for further legal action.

The administration banned entry of motorcycles on the bypass immediately aftyer the accident to prevent such accidents in future..

Besides, a case will be registered against the bike riders who violated the ban.

Awareness campaign will be launched for people walking on the bypass. Strict action will also be taken against pedestrians on the bypass after two days.
