SUKKUR: A clash between two rival groups belonging to the Mastoi community left a man dead and many others injured in the Bolan area of Jacobabad district on Thursday.

Officials at the Saddar police station of Jacobabad said that the groups had been at odds over a matrimonial issue for some time.

They said that one group turned violent at a gathering held to settle the issue. The groups fought a pitched battle using clubs, rocks and other lethal objects, they added.

Many people from the two sides suffered injuries during the clash and were taken to the Jacobabad Civil Hospital for treatment.

Residents of the neighbourhood intervened to stop the fight.

One of the injured, Ahsan Mastoi, had to be referred to the Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, but he died on the way.

Protest over triple murder

A large number of people carrying bodies of a couple and their daughter held a protest by blocking the National Highway near Shaheed Allah Bakhsh Soomro Park in Jacobabad to demand arrest of the killers.

The victims, Yaseen Wagan, his wife Mrs Koonj and their daughter Mrs Madiha, were allegedly killed by the latter’s husband, Israr Hajan Jamali in Dera Murad Jamali, Balochistan, on Wednesday night. The suspect was eventually arrested.

The protesters kept the road blocked for several hours, insisting that the Israr’s alleged accomplices must also be arrested. They dispersed peacefully after the Jacobabad police assured them of full cooperation in this regard.
