Two gunned down, as many held in ‘encounters’

OKARA: Two suspects were killed and as many were arrested in alleged encounters in the Okara district.

In one incident, police claimed that a City A Division Police team headed by Inspector Khizar Hayat was patrolling in the area when he received information that another patrolling team was under attack near the Darbar Qurban Shah in the north of the city near the 4/L road.

Police claimed that when the team reached the site, they saw three gunmen firing on the police and they also retaliated. Later, the police claimed that they found the dead body of one suspect, who was allegedly killed by the firing of his two accomplices.

Police said the deceased suspect was identified as Abdul Rehman, a resident 38/2RA, who was involved in 181 cases of theft and illicit weapons in various districts, including Lahore.

Police claimed to have recovered a stolen motorcycle, a weapon with four empties from the site and a case was registered on the report of Inspector Khizar Hayat.

In the second alleged encounter, police claimed a Crime Control Department (CCD) patrolling team signalled some bikers to stop but they allegedly opened fire on the team in Diplapur Saddar area.

Police claimed that when the guns went silent, the team found the body of a suspect, while his two accomplices had escaped in the dark.

The killed gunman was identified as Waleed, who was found involved in stealing Wapda transformers from agricultural tubewells in the area. His two accomplices were identified as Omar and Sharif.

In another encounter, police claimed that a Chuchak Police team signalled four suspects on two motorcycles to stop near the Habib Abad-Chuchak Road near village 67A-ML. However, the police claimed that the bikers tried to flee toward the Habib Abad Road and the team chased them. Police claimed that one of the bikes overturned while the riders on the other motorcycle kept on shooting the chasing police party.

Police claimed that when the firing stopped, they found one suspect injured who introduced himself as Sharif alias Shera, a resident of Bazida village. Police also claimed to have found a locally-made weapon with two bullets.

The police further claimed that the other three suspects managed to escape, however, one suspect identified as Sabir Ali was overpowered by ASI Akhtar Ali and arrested. An unregistered motorcycle and a weapon was recovered from him. One of the two escaping suspects was identified as Zaigham Abbas of village 5/GD. On the report of Sub Inspector Amanat Ali, a case was registered by the Chuchak Police against the suspects.

ELECTROCUTION: A Lesco lineman was electrocuted during repair work on Wednesday.

As per details, Lesco Renala City 4th circle lineman Muhammad Akram Bhatti was repairing some fault when suffered an electric shock and he died on the spot.
